Whether you are printing a report, labels, envelopes, post cards or some other custom paper size, getting the results to come out like you expected in Act! can be difficult. First, you need to know that Act! 10.0 on does not appear to handle custom paper sizes at all. However, there is a workaround.
First, accept that your report should be formatted for an 8 1/2 x 11 inch piece of paper. Then, use the margin settings to create the custom sizing. Based on the upper left hand corner of the page, set your margins to hold the size you need. For example, if you need a 3.5 x 5.5 inch envelope, set the left and top margins to zero (0). Then set the right margin to 3 inches (allowing 5.5 inches across for printing) and set the bottom margin to 7.5 inches (allowing 3.5 inches of printing down the page).
Then, be sure you are set in portrait mode for both your report and your printer driver. Finally, insert the envelope, top edge into the printer and print away.
As with any new report, test with a normal sheet of paper and align it over an envelope to be sure the formatting is correct. Then use your labels or envelope stock. This type of testing will keep your costs down for mistakes.
