Act! — Script for City, State & Zip

When creating reports in Act! some fields need combined to print with better spacing.  For example, the city field in the contact database has variable length names.  Unless they are combined, the spacing between the city and state will be awkward.

In the Act! report writer, fields are manipulated using scripts.  Creating a custom text box is beyond the scope of this post.   The script used to combine the fields is shown below.

Notice the ampersands between each field or block of text.  More importantly, notice there is no space between any of the strings or fields.  Putting spaces in the script when adding text fields together will not work.

Now the custom text field can be used as if it were one large field with the City, State and Zip Code.  Using one field looks much cleaner and makes the report creation much easier.
