ETools Tickmark Toolbar Corrupted

Ok, so this doesn’t really apply to small business.  However it does apply to small CPA firms!

PPC Thomson Reuters has a product called ETools which basically uses Excel and Word to help maintain engagements by providing a large number of worksheets and documents ready to use.  They also have a well thought out set of tickmarks available to use in these or your own documents.  The tickmarks are used in a toolbar for each office program.  Occasionally the toolbar gets corrupted and only a few tickmarks show.   Here’s how to fix it!

etools-resettoolbarOpen windows explorer and find your MyDocuments folder.  Inside that folder should be a directory titled Practitioners Publishing.  Opening this folder should give you a view similar to the one shown here.

Notice the PPCTickmarks.xml file.  Be sure that Excel, Word and the ETools program are all closed.  Then delete this file (yes, I said delete the file).

Open up Excel or Word and re-launch the tickmarks toolbar.  All should be well and fixed!
