We are members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCCPA), the Charlotte Homebuilder’s Association (CHBA) and various other tax, bookkeeping and financial organizations.   We complete a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education yearly in order to maintain our license.

Why Use a CPA?  Why not a Bookkeeper or Tax Preparer?

A certified public accountant has many advantages over just a bookkeeper or tax preparer.  In addition to required learning each year, the license process included a three day series of exams that had to be passed.  Personal letters of recommendation from other CPA’s were submitted.  Certain college level education had to be attained.  All this was done just to obtain the license and use of the title ‘Certified Public Accountant’.  Bookkeepers and tax preparers are not required to do any of these.

After obtaining a license, CPA’s are required to abide by certain ethical and moral standards.  These standards are published as part of the bylaws of our professional organization.  Furthermore, every kind of service provided by a CPA has certain professional standards that must be followed and are published by the AICPA.  These standards help CPA’s provide quality and accurate products and services.  Bookkeepers and tax preparers are not required to do any of these.

A certified public accountant can express an opinion on your financial statements.  While there are varying types of opinions and different levels of assurance about the financial statements, lenders and other financial professionals can rely on these opinions to assist y0u in your business.  Bookkeepers and other non-CPA’s cannot provide these opinions.

There are many other reasons a CPA can provide a professional level of service not obtainable from a non-CPA.  The AICPA is correct when they say American Counts on CPA’s.
